Is she really that bad? by DarkAncientLight Is she really that bad? by DarkAncientLight
Reasons for being hated: Mary Sue, replaced May, crybaby, is just a "copy of May".
BAWW!!! Dawn is a Mary Sue!!!
 This is the excuse that everyone  gives when they really don’t want to be specific about not liking a character. Dawn is far from perfect, she can get pretty demanding when things don’t go her way, and sometimes she is WAY too positive.
BAWW!!! Dawn replaced May!!!
You say that May replaced Misty and now you're calling Dawn replaced May? Just WTH, fans? This is a common false argument among Pokemon fans. I'm very
surprised to see this one, considering May gets a lot, and I mean a LOT of hate for pretty much replacing Misty, which well… May got a really well closure for her adventure with Ash, I love May, she is my favorite character in the Pokemon anime, but I was content with her stay, and quite frankly I’d hate to see her as hammered Misty got in Johto, where she was reduced to just carry Togepi.
Also, once again, this is more the executives wanting to go on another character, Diamond & Pearl was right in the corner at the time, so it made sense.
BAWW!!! Dawn is a crybaby!!!
Geez, Lenalee (D.Gray-Man), Winry Rockbell (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) cry for good reasons.
She gets mad when things don’t go her way but really, she is friggin positive, her catch phrase is "No need to worry!" for crying out loud!
If she, Lenalee and Winry didn't cry then it wouldn't make her human because it's normal for humans to cry.
BAWW!!! Dawn is just a "copy of May"!!!
Wrong! This isn't true at all.
May of all things, isn’t as lady-like as Dawn is, May does get wilder in a lot of ocassions, she gets depressed easily and really needed the support, May didn’t even liked Pokemon at the start, heck, she didn’t knew what she would do with one other than going on an adventure. Dawn is more positive and her dreams are more straight up, more cemented and it adds to her positiveness, which is I say, Dawn’s best attribute.
BAWW!! Ash belongs with me/Misty/May <insert OC or canon here>!!!
*cough*You're welcome to pair up to whatever couples you like but remember this:
Ash isn't a teenager yet! He's only 10!! He's too young to get a girlfriend or fall in love yet. Ash needs to age more and he needs to be at least 14 or older to get a girlfriend. He's too busy thinking about becoming Pokemon Master.
You're welcome to write fanfics where Ash and his friends are teenagers. But Ash doesn't exist even if he does, he won't tolerate anybody hating Dawn because she's important to him and Brock.
In short, Dawn was my favorite character in Pokemon. I stopped watching Pokemon entirely after Diamond and Pearl ended. I use wake up every Saturday morning to watch Diamond and Pearl.

I Hate Iris.
My Friend Just told me that Black and white is Really good though. going on about how Team rocket is kicking ass and Ash is On top of shit and actually catching pokemon. But even still having Iris and no Brock that brings me down.

I agree with this. Dawn maybe my least favorite of all the main female companions in the Pokemon anime, but that doesn't mean that I hate or even immensely dislike her nor do I believe she deserves the crap rabid fans of the other girls project at her. Hey, I initially disliked her at first, but even someone as stubborn as I am can grow to appreciate her.

Yeah, Iris annoyed me one the biggest reasons why I didn't watch Black and White.

:iconthemizplz: Really? REALLY!?

Man, the rabid fans (I assume mostly fangirls, though I may be wrong) really do flip their shitake mushrooms over the slightest things, don't they?

Although I haven't watched that much of the Pokemon anime since the end of the Johto arc and early Hoenn episodes, I've managed to catch some episodes of the DP series and a few of the movies, and Dawn was an alright character; she got some laughs, some emotional moments, all the stuff that Nintendo's good at with Pokemon, so why do people spend their time hating on a FICTIONAL CHARACTER?

As much as I joke that I ruin fandoms for others, I certainly don't spend my days whinging and complaining over the internet at the slightest thing that I don't agree with; I'm all for "like what you like and don't force/be forced by others to like something," but I can never understand why character-bashing is seen as perfectly acceptible in certain circles, especially when it isn't necessary in any way, shape or form

Drawing cruel hate art just because a character's mere existence ruins your potential shipping ideas, even though the majority of shippings in existence are the fandom's collective headcanon and very rarely canon?

Getting upset just because the producers want to add some variety to their show and cycle the featured characters about instead of keeping the same team together to learn the same lessons over and over again?

Hammering out complaint after complaint with perma-capslock just because the character's personality isn't what you personally expected?

Is all of that stuff reeeeaaally worth it in the long run?
I guess it'll just be one of those things I'll never understand

Oh and thanks for mentioning Ash being ten-years-old, it's been confirmed that he's still ten since the creators wanted a protagonist the target audience can relate to, even though he should be about twenty nowadays; I'd personally go with the idea of having a new male lead per-series to mix things up and providing a time-skip to meet back up with old faces after they've aged a couple of years would please both old and new fans, but these decisions aren't up to me, so I guess we can just run with that Nintendo wants
